It's Baile Geamhraidh Farm now! Yes we have cattle. A small herd of Shetland cattle have come to live with us. Two cows, Helen and Kite, with their heifer calves Enya and Cara a bull calf called Roscoe and a bullock calf called Steak. Here is a picture of them the day after they arrived. I think it was a bit of a shock for them to wake up to the snow. We have come to love them, and are learning from them everyday. They are outside all the time and are quite hardy (they'd have to be). They are calm and friendly, independant and each one is very different in personality. Helen is a true lady, but slightly timid, Kite is a quite bolshy but sturdy and strong. Her daughter Cara is somewhat like her mother and Enya like Helen. The boys, who are now in a seperate field for obvious reasons are much less complicated than the girls and are just plain fun. They all like eating as much as I can feed them.
We have started the process of converting to biodynamic farming, which I may explain in due course. |
