Spring 2014 is here. Some lovely days and lots of rain in between. We are now in the fourth year of the project. We have become used to living without too many luxuries and have become quite hardy. It is always a treat to visit someone who has hot running water and a bath is such a luxury. Because of all of the vegetables and fruit we grow, we eat very well. Having our own hens and gorgeous eggs is also a real bonus.
The outside of the building is done!!!! And, it is quite stunning (I think). The grass roof in particular has turned out to be spectacular. Wild flowers are beginning to colonise the roof. The only upkeep so far has been to remove the deep rooted colonisers such as docks, and a scythe at the end of the season. That is all. The grass is so long now that it waves in the wind. The cedar cladding is scrumptious and is silvering down with a very subtle sheen.
