Our Island Life 2017
|
The HouseThe house is standing proud in the landscape. As of end October we haven't yet moved in, though it won't be long now. Just the plastering to do, the electrics to finish, the kitchen to put in and the floors, doors and entrance to make.
The FarmThe farm is developing around the cattle. They are the heart of the farm for sure. Two new calves born this year, bonny fellows the both them. The second year in conversion to Biodynamics. It is a lot of work and couldn't be done without occasional help from strong lads to help spray the fields with the BD preparations and teach me about ear tagging and the like.

The GardenThe gardens have come on. We do now have plenty of vegetables, fruit, flowers and herbs. A box scheme for on island deliveries and an open day once week to come enjoy the view, buy veg bread and eggs and soon meat as well.
Learning and TeachingLearning about farming and using homeopathic and herbal medicine for the land, for people and for animals keeps me very busy. Then there is the Gaelic language to learn, the music, the community, the classes I teach on seaweed, gardening and tree generation. Sebastian spends any time he has after working on the house on looking after the Lismore Island Trust.
