Seaweed has been used for a very long time in agriculture, industry, cosmetics and food.
More recently there has been a resurgence in their use for food, nutrition and health. In Japan, and other far eastern countries sea vegetables are much more used as food than in Western countries. In Scotland we have our own sea vegetables that are just as good.
COME OVER TO LISMORE VIA PORT APPIN AND JOIN US IN ONE OF OUR FORAGING EVENTS.
In these foraging events we will explore the intertidal area of the shore of Lismore and find out which sea vegetables are good to eat, what to do with them for deliciousness and health enhancement. If the rain is not too bad we can even make a fire and toast some seaweed to try.
A certain amount of fitness is required as the shore might be slippery, wellies are required and you may get a little wet. Waterproof trousers might also be a good idea. No dogs please. Children over 5 welcome with their responsible adult present.
Bring a snack or something to cook or heat up on the fire and some fresh water to drink, wear wellies, waterproof trousers, some small plastic bags, a pair of scissors, a carrier bag and a felt tip pen, phone or camera. Meet on Lismore off the designated ferry where I will be waiting to collect you. Return when you want to.
Booking is essential as spaces are limited. To book your place click on blue "book now" button to the left. Cost £20 per adult one child per adult free (under 16).
